Name that
face.
Upload a screenshot, a photo of a sign, or a scan. typeye ranks the typefaces that fit. 2,004 open-source families, measured on your device.
Three steps, about a second.
No queue, no sign-up. The 52 MB model downloads once, caches, and then runs offline with WebGPU — or on the CPU if your browser can’t.
Paste, drop, or shoot.
PNG, JPG, WebP, or a screenshot straight from the clipboard. Up to 20 MB. The file is read in the tab and never sent anywhere.
Box the line that counts.
typeye splits the glyphs, normalizes height and weight, then compares shapes against the catalog. Tight crops score better than whole pages.
Read a ranked list, not a guess.
Every candidate gets a score and a re-render of your own word. Compare the two, then open the family in the catalog.
A ranking, not an oracle.
A single font name from an image is a guess dressed as an answer. typeye returns the candidates that fit, the score for each, and the benchmark behind them.
Rendered text is easy. Phone photos of signage are not. We publish both numbers and let the scores show you the difference.

What runs in the tab.
Recognition is local by default. The commercial index and the API are the only things that ever leave your machine.
Your image never leaves the tab.
Inference runs on WebGPU with a WebAssembly fallback. The model caches after the first visit and keeps working offline.
2,004 families, shipped.
Every Google Fonts family with its weights and italics, indexed locally. No server round trip, no rate limit on a lookup.
Commercial faces, on request.
A licensed index of 820k commercial faces ranks alongside the free ones — off by default, because it means sending one crop out.
Re-rank with your own word.
The text from your image is set in each shortlisted face and scored again. On photos, top-1 goes from 26% to 44%.
CJK — with the caveat attached.
The full 2,004-family model indexes and scores Hanzi families: 68% top-5 on rendered Chinese. This phase-1 seed catalog is Latin-first; Chinese families arrive with the full model. We print 68, not 99, and link out for commercial libraries.
Folders, not one-offs.
Drop twenty images at once, or POST to /v1/identify and get JSON back. 100 calls a minute on Pro, 10 on Starter.
The catalog is the product.
Every card names its licence and its source, so you can download the file legally — and know when a face is only available commercially.
Priced per recognition.
The browser engine and the open catalog are free, forever. Paid plans buy the commercial index, batches and API calls.
For the one-off hunt. No account, no card.
For designers checking decks, packaging and signage.
For studios with a folder of screenshots.
Before you upload.
No. Identification runs in the tab. The one exception is the commercial index: if you switch it on, a crop is sent to our licensed partner, and the panel tells you so before it leaves.
Find the face.
One screenshot. About a second. Nothing uploaded, nothing to install.
